Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine:
What is Auricular Acupuncture?

Ear (Auricular) Acupuncture
The ear is seen as a microsystem in Oriental medicine. In other words, the ear is a miniature representation of an entire individual. There are points on the ear that correspond to all different parts of the body, internal and external. In fact, over 100 acupuncture points are identified on the ear alone. Ear (auricular) therapy is usually incorporated into regular acupuncture treatment but can also be used as a standalone approach for certain disorders. Ear acupuncture points may be stimulated for an extended period of time by applying ear seeds. In this case, small seeds from the Vaccaria plant are held in place on the ear with adhesive tape for up to a few days in order to extend the benefits of acupuncture treatment.

The Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx uses an Auricular system for Substance Abuse patients and Miami Dade Drug Court has adopted the same system with great results in getting repeated substance abuse offenders off drugs and out of the system.

Patients generally receive great responses for everything from Stop Smoking & Substance Abuse to Weight Loss and Stress. Also, a good system for children or those who have a fear of the Acupuncture needles. The Acupuncturist can work with only the seeds and generally receive similar results.
